LORE CITY -- Eyesores were the hot topic at the Lore City council meeting. Several residents attended the meeting with complaints of properties around their homes that are abandoned and uncared for or being neglected by their owners.

The complaints consisted of animals living in the homes, raw sewage in yards and homes being vandalized.

"I will call the health department personally," said councilman Jason May.

A couple of the homes that were talked about have been condemned.

"The problem is," said May, "We don't have the means to tear down the properties."

"All it means is, once a property is condemned, it cannot be inhabited again until the repairs are made," said May.

Mayor Richard Carpenter said he will speak to the individuals to try and resolve the problem. The next step will be to pursue legal action.

In other business, council approved a couple of resolutions.

The first was presented by Dan Speedy of the Community Development Corporation. The CDC is working on Leatherwood Creek and the resolution is a formality that gives the CDC permission to work in the village.

Council approved the resolution.

"I definitely appreciate all you have done for us," said Mayor Carpenter to Speedy. "All the work on the trail, everything looks very nice."

The second resolution was to transfer money to the park fund for the purchase of picnic tables and benches.

Council approved.

June 28 will be the Lore City community potluck and ribbon cutting at the new pavilion in Leatherwood Park. The event will be 1 to 3 p.m.

The next council meeting will be at 6 p.m. July 8 at the Community Building.
