BYESVILLE -- Ray Chorey from Southeastern Med was the guest speaker at this week's Byesville Rotary Club meeting. He said disease prevention was important tool in staying well and thanked the Rotary Club for working with Southeastern Med to provide an annual health screening for community members.
Chorey said the current economic problems have increased the number of challenges Southeastern Med faces. One of the challenges is caused by changes in the way employers support health care for example many employers have implemented higher deductibles for their employees.
Another challenge is working to meet the needs of patients who need services but who are having difficulty paying for those services. This problem is exacerbated by the fact that in Guernsey County 28 percent of all adults and 6 percent of all children do not have health insurance. This puts stress on both Southeastern Med and the patients.
Chorey said despite the economic challenges, Southeatern Med staff members continue to work toward providing increasing better services. As part of this effort, Southeastern Med has been successful in recruiting new doctors with specialties needed by the area to Cambridge. The new doctors include a neurologist and a second orthopedic surgeon.
Southeastern Med has also added new services such as pill cameras and internal acid reflux monitors. Southeastern Med is the only hospital in southeastern Ohio to offer these cutting edge technologies.
