DOVER --The Meadowbrook Colts headed into Friday night's game having not defeated East Central Ohio League foe Dover since 1994. Unfortunately for the Colts, the streak was pushed to 15 years as the host Tornadoes (7-1, 4-0) made quick work of the visitors with a 63-6 victory.

"We ran the option well early, but we just weren't consistent enough to move the chains," lamented Meadowbrook coach Mitch Bendle, whose team dropped to 1-7 overall and 1-3 in the ECOL. "Dover is a good football team and very physical and quick on defense. We played pretty decently on defense and we played ball in the first quarter. We were playing some decent ball there and we just had some breakdowns in the secondary and poor tackling again. As explosive as Dover is, they score 50 to 60 points a week and if you do that, they are going to rack the points up on you."

Dover, which entered the game ranked eighth in the AP Division III poll, took little time opening the scoring by moving 64 yards on the opening drive, capped on a 28-yard pass from Marcus Mamarella to Ian Drapcho. Zachary Rafter was true on the point-after for an early 7-0 lead.

Meadowbrook moved the ball well on its initial possession on the legs of Josh Riggans, Jared George and Jonathan Smith, but the drive stalled after more than five minutes.

The teams traded possessions headed into the second quarter, when Dover clamped down on the Colts.

The Tornadoes started with a 43-yard scoring strike from Mamarella to Ricky Maz at the 11:48 mark of the second chapter. Rafter nailed the PAT kick for the 14-0 lead.

Dover scored again on its ensuing possession with Mamarella capping a six-play, 33-yard drive by running untouched up the middle from two yards out. Rafter nailed the conversion kick for a 21-0 lead.

The advantage was pushed to 28-0 when Mamarella hit Colton Zahner on a pass, with Zahner threading through the Colts' defense for a 61-yard score. Rafter was "money" again for the follow-up kick.

Jeramie Neff stopped the Tornadoes by intercepting a Mamarella pass in the end zone, but Dover would not be stopped on its next drive, a one-play affair with Mamarella hitting Zahner from 53 yards out. Rafter's conversion pushed the lead to 35-0 at the half.

The hosts continued to air it out in the third round, striking on a 35-yard pass from backup QB Derek Swinderman to Maz. The kick was good for 42-0 showing with 10:03 left in the third.

The Colts' offense finally dented the scoreboard at the 3:19 mark of the third quarter when George went in from 11 yards out. The kick never got off as it was smothered by a host of Tornadoes, leaving the score at 42-6.

Dover scored once again before the third period was over as Swinderman hit Logan Malhom on the sideline and the speedy sophomore streaked into the end zone for a 51 yard score. Rafter's kick left the score 49-6 headed into the fourth frame.

Dover scored two more times in the final chapter as Eric Aubihl hailed in a 58-yard strike from Swinderman at the 9:49 mark and Pierce Applin broke four tackles en route to a 43-yard TD dash. Rafter converted both kicks for the 63-6 final.

The Tornadoes finished with a 573-180 advantage in yardage. Mamarella and Swinderman both finished with 215 passing yards each, with Mamarella tossing four scoring strikes and Swinderman adding three. Zahner had seven catches for 181 yards and a pair of scores.

For the Colts, Riggans led the offense with 64 yards on 22 carries while Neff recorded a pair of "picks" on defense.
