The Meadowbrook High Colts will be looking for their second gridiron victory on Friday when they entertain East Central Ohio League opponent Claymont. The Colts enter the contest after a brutal past two weeks, losing by a total of 126-12 to ECOL frontrunners Dover and New Philadelphia. Last week alone, the Colts' defense surrendered 573 yards of total offense to the Tornadoes. Meadowbrook (1-7, 1-3 ECOL) will feature the running duo of quarterback Jared George and running back Josh Riggans. The two have combined for more than 650 yards and seven TDs on the year. George has also accumulated 608 yards and four touchdowns through the air, completing 37-of-105 pass attempts. His main target has been Jake Black, who has eight grabs for 147 yards. Claymont (2-6, 1-4 ECOL) has earned its pair of wins against Indian Valley and River View. "They're a lot like us," said Meadowbrook coach Mitch Bendle of Claymont. "They're having a rough season and they expect to come in here and get a win. They are going to play real hard, and we have to do the same. "It will probably come down to turnovers," noted Bendle. "We have struggled with putting the ball on the ground. You can't do that in this league against playoff-caliber teams and expect to keep them out of the end zone. "We are hoping to get some things done this week.," the MHS coach continued. "Not put the ball on the ground...not get penalties. Our offense is getting better at the option and we are capable of moving the ball." A win for the Colts this week could provide some much-needed momentum heading into the Cambridge game in week 10. "This will be a hard-fought game," Bendle. "A win here would be a real motivational boost for week 10. The kids need this, the coaches need this. We need this win." Claymont defeated the Colts last year, 32-13. Comments
