Around the Neighborhood

It has been a little over three years now that the Jeffersonian has let me print an article in the local paper. Of the articles I have been able to save, 133 essays. (I lost some this summer when my computer crashed.) I keep them so as not to be redundant or to refresh my memory or expand on a previous article.

It gives me an outlet to directly "talk" with the people and to let them know what is going on with their local government, the village and other matters that may have a direct impact on their lives. Its cathartic for me as it sometimes lets me explain my take on matters of great interest or importance to those who elected us. But, like most essayist, I have to review and re-write several times so as not be dabbling in narcissistic behavior like some that I deal with on a regular basis.

The "tit-for-tat" gamesmanship makes for great paper sales but I have learned over the years to work behind the scenes getting things done. Sometimes to my own detriment but it has to be done. When I started, the volleys back and forth were a source of great material to read but I think though it all we achieved a greater more efficient type of government. Many of the small towns around us have adopted several of the ideas we started. If it works, why not?

There are several items before us that will have to be dealt with even before the end of the year. My hope is that all can be settled in a rational and business like matter. Right now, I bite my tongue and am waiting for the other shoe to drop. The articles for these matters have been formulating in my head for months. I just hope they are positive.

All in all, it has been a positive year. Even though there have been disappointments with the budget and levy; we did receive a huge amount of money towards projects here within the village. My hope is that upon reflection of that, we will really work together in the next year to get things turned around. It's important that we do so.

So, without explaining too much more (I will leave that to the State of the Village report), I want to wish each an everyone a very nice Thanksgiving. Whether this is received prior to or just after the day, it is important that this weekend be enjoyable to each of us as family. And to those without family nearby, just remember that someone out there is saying a prayer for you on this day and hoping everything in your life is going great.

P.S. Don't eat too much turkey.
