BYESVILLE -- The periodic U.S. census will take place this year and village officials want it to benefit the citizens.
Councilman Jay Jackson has been conferring with a census official about establishing a training center for temporary Census workers.
"I would like to get the headquarters right here in Byesville," Jackson said, "and get some jobs for Byesville."
He said the jobs would entail an hourly pay rate of $10.75 and would last for a period of three months.
After speaking with the Census representative, Jackson referred her to Mayor Don Gadd.
"We were talking about them using the community room [at the back of Village Hall] for their training center," Gadd said. "It would be good to have it here because that would mean more income taxes for the village."
"Yes," Jackson said. "It's a win-win situation."
Among other action, council:
* Authorized the payment of general fund bills totaling $83,315.37.
* Reviewed enterprise fund bills totaling $47,458.64, the payment of which was authorized by the village administrator.
* Heard from Rusty Roberts who is acting as a research assistant for the CARES program, a research program undertaken by the University of Cincinnati in conjunction with Marietta College. Funded by grant money, the program will essay to determine the effects of air pollution on the learning ability of children.
* Learned that Jackson is exploring the possibility of applying for grants to fund improvements to the Village Park.
