BYESVILLE -- Officials of the Village of Byesville were surprised with good news this week: The village will receive additional, federal stimulus money for construction of its new wastewater treatment plant. Under provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Byesville will receive an additional $386,499.31, Village Administrator Randy Mercer said Tuesday. The village already had been awarded $3.995 million. The additional money brings the award total to $4,381,499.31. The cost of building the new plant is expected to total $8,762,998. The village also has been approved for a loan in the revised amount of $3,608,500.69 from the Ohio Water Pollution Control Loan Fund. It is as pleasant as it is rare for a local government to receive money for which it didn't ask, Mercer said. The contractor's timetable calls for construction of the John R. Smalley Wastewater Treatment Plant to be completed by April 2011. "But we expect it to be completed ahead of schedule," Mercer said, perhaps as early as November. Comments
