BYESVILLE -- Charles R. "Bob" Allison, 86, of Byesville, passed away unexpectedly Sunday (Jan. 31, 2010) at Southeastern Med in Cambridge. He was born March 2, 1923, in Cumberland, son of the late William and Bernice (Burlingame) Allison. Mr. Allison was employed with the Guernsey County Highway Department for 32 years, before retiring in 1981. He was Methodist by faith, and attended Cumberland High School. He was a member of American Legion Post 116 of Byesville, and a life member of Byesville VFW Post 3760. Bob enjoyed hunting deer, squirrel and rabbits, and mornings at Byesville McDonald's with the coffee club. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946, having served aboard the LST 166 serving in the South Pacific. He was involved in the invasion and occupation of Bougainville Island in 1943, Saipan in 1944, and Okinawa in 1945. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, John Allison. He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Voytko) Allison, whom he married July 2, 1949; one son, Jerry (Susan) Allison of Norwich; one daughter, Janice (Tom) Kenworthy of Byesville; two grandchildren, Jerrod (LeAnne) Allison of North Bloomfield and Douglas Kenworthy of Byesville; one great-grandson, Jerrett Allison; and special friend, Dr. B.V. Chendraj of Cambridge. Calling hours were Wednesday, Feb. 3 at the Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, where services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 4 with Pastor Roger Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Cumberland Cemetery. Military services will be conducted by the Guernsey County Veterans Council.
