BYESVILLE -- William "Bill" H. Brown Jr., 88, of Byesville, passed away Saturday (Feb. 6, 2010) at Southeastern Med in Cambridge. He was born Nov. 2, 1921, in New Straitsville, son of the late William and Anna (Thompson) Brown Sr. Mr. Brown retired after several years of service with Marzane (Shelly & Sands and Hall & Barber), having served as plant manager for the Batch plant in Byesville. He was a gradaute of New Straitsville High School. He served in the Army-Air Corps during World War II, from 1942 to 1946, where he was involved in the theater of operations in China, India and Burma. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with membership in Scottish Rite in Cambridge, and Blue Lodge No. 0484 in New Straitsville. He was also a member of Cambridge VFW Post 2901. He enjoyed mowing his grass on his John Deere, and loved his Bassett Hound dogs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Brad Brown; three brothers; a sister; and a grandson. He leaves his wife, Shirley Turner Brown of Byesville, whom he married on Nov. 21, 1973; four sons, Richard (Dezedra) Brown, David Brown, Dale(Carol) Brown, all of New Straitsville, and Dane Brown, New Lexington; three stepsons, Jerry "J.D." Sills Sr., Pleasant City, Rick(Mary) Sills, Byesville, and Robert Sills, Cambridge; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces. Funeral services were Feb. 10 at the Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville, with pastor Carl Keefer officiating. Masonic services were Feb. 9. Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.
