CUMBERLAND -- The February Cumberland Village Council meeting recently took place, in between the two major snow events.

The meeting had been postponed a week for non-weather related reasons.

Bills totaling $179,114.37 were presented and approved for payment. Ordinance 2010-04 was passed setting the annual appropriations. Resolution 2010-05 was passed supporting the plan proposed by Southeastern Ohio Joint Sold Waste Management.

Monthly reports were presented by (or from) the fiscal officer, mayor, village administrator and street commissioner.

The Byesville/Cumberland waterline is about a third completed.

The inclement weather is slowing things down. Work will continue wherever it is safe to do so.

Council members Peggy Cunningham and Elizabeth Whited reminded everyone that 2010 census will take place soon.

The more people that return the census, the better the chances are for representation at all levels of government, receiving grants, etc. It is very important to Cumberland and Spencer Township that everyone fill out and return the form in a timely manner.

Cumberland residents are reminded that the clearing of snow and/or debris along with sidewalk maintenance is the responsibility of the property owner.

Blocking of village streets and alleys is strictly prohibited. Violators are subject to be towed at the owner's expense.

Although these regulations are enforceable year-round, it has become more of a problem recently due to the heavy snowfalls.

Residents are asked to abide by the rules and be a good neighbor.

Council's next meeting is March 1 at 6 p.m. at the Village Building.
