COSHOCTON --Down 33-32 with 3:00 remaining in Saturday's East Central Ohio League contest, the Meadowbrook Lady Colts relied on a bucket and a pair of free throws from junior Kat Jirles, followed by a couple of free throws from sophomore Tori Wolverton to claim a 38-33 victory.

"It was tough," Meadowbrook coach Tommy Strasser explained. "It was Coshocton's Senior Day, and they played with a lot of emotion."

A close game throughout, Meadowbrook (14-5, 8-3 ECOL) suffered a huge blow when junior Shelby Stover went down with an ankle injury after scoring 11 points.

In true team-oriented spirit, the Lady Colts gained support from their sidelines.

"In the second half, we responded," Strasser related. "Our bench (Maddy Epperson, Chasidy Brooker and Alyssa Wright) played really well tonight."

Stover paced the Lady Colts with 11 points, while Jirles added eight counters and six rebounds. Wolverton and Wright each scored six points, and Wolverton dished out four assists to lead the offense.

Katy Johnson led the Lady Redskins with 13 points, while Rachel Zimamra added six points and snared eight boards.

The visitors hit 13-of-41 (31 percent) of their field goals and a blistering 9-of-10 (90 percent) of their foul shots in a winning effort. The Lady Colts also coughed up 12 turnovers while forcing nine from Coshocton.

NEXT -- MHS is idle until Wednesday, Feb. 24 when it plays the St. Clairsville/Carrollton winner at the OU Eastern Division II Sectional at 8 p.m.
