New Philadelphia take win over Lady Colts

NEW PHILADELPHIA -- With three starters on the bench beside Meadowbrook coach Tom Strasser, the New Philadelphia Lady Quakers took advantage at the foul line to secure a second-place finish in the East Central Ohio League with a 47-38 win over the Lady Colts on Wednesday.

The three starters that didn't see action for the Lady Colts sat out to rest nagging injuries in preparation for sectional tournament play which begins for Meadowbrook next week.

"I am very proud of the effort our girls gave," Strasser stated. "They played with a lot of energy and battled to the end, giving us an opportunity to win."

Danielle Ledrich had two big quarters (second and fourth) on her way to a 29-point night to go with eight rebounds. She poured in 11 points in a decisive second quarter after Meadowbrook posted a 8-7 lead the opening round.

The Lady Quakers, behind the effort of Ledrich, rolled up a 21-17 lead at halftime, but the Lady Colts came back the third frame to post a 13-9 scoring advantage and send the teams to the final eight minutes deadlocked at 30.

Ledrich scored 12 points the final stanza and was a perfect 6-of-6 from the foul line in the round and 10-of-10 for the game.

New Philadelphia (12-6, 9-2 ECOL) shot just 34 percent from the field (14-of-41) and added 16-of-22 from the foul line. The next closest scorer to Ledrich was Taylor Moreland with five points.

The Lady Colts (14-6, 8-4 ECOL) canned 13-of-38 floor shots for 34.2 percent and tacked on 8-of-11 from the charity stripe. Bre Jones, with four three-pointers, led Meadowbrook with 16 points while Candace Neff and Chasidy Brooker added six points each.

The Lady Quakers posted a 29-25 rebounding edge led by Ledrich while Neff pulled down eight boards for the Lady Colts.

NEXT--Meadowbrook's next action will be Wednesday at 8 p.m. against the winner of the St. Clairsville-Carrollton game in the Division II Sectional Tournament at Ohio University Eastern.
