Francis Mark Gombeda Sr.

BYESVILLE -- Francis Mark Gombeda Sr., 73, of Cambridge, passed away Sunday (Feb. 21, 2010) at his home.

He was born April 7, 1936, in Florence, son of the late George and Mary Ann (Barlock) Gombeda.

Mr. Gombeda was a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Byesville and a member of Christ Our Light Parish in Cambridge. He attended school at Belle Valley, Community and Holy Trinity.

He was a former employee of Universal Pottery, drove a coal truck for Joe Sulek Mine, was a mechanic at Marathon Garage, a transmission mechanic for Bruney Buick and Pontiac and Autoport Dealerships, mechanic for Hill & Hill Well Service, Howard Services and several oil drilling companies. He later worked with his son, Francis, at Lally Pipe and Tube in Kentucky, also as a self-employed welder for 34 years.

He was co-owner with his wife of Fran's Bar in Dogtown for more than 36 years. He also helped build the Big Muskie dragline in the 1960s.

He enjoyed deer hunting, building deer tree houses, cat fishing, four-wheeling, camping, auctions and drag races. He also enjoyed family vacations out west, fishing trips to Canada and Kentucky and going to Jamboree in the Hills with his family and friends, and also Buckeye Jam at Dogtown.

He enjoyed his pets, Jack and Pee Pee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ronald and Michael Gombeda; sisters, Barbara Edwards and Marcie Villers; granddaughter, Kendra Waddell; and a great-grandson, Lane Donnally Green.

He leaves his wife of 52 years, Catherine Marie (Henry) Gombeda, whom he married Aug. 24, 1957; two daughters, Mary Catherine Kraizel and Bill Kyser, and Charlene Marie Downing; two sons, Francis Mark (Tina) Gombeda Jr. and Christopher Alan (Rebecca) Gombeda; grandchildren, Stephen J. Kraizel III, Christine Marie Kraizel, Derrick Francis Gombeda, Jeremy H. Downing, Dalton Alan Gombeda, Kaylynn Marie Gombeda; and great-grandson, Stephen J. Kraizel IV; and brothers, John Gombeda, James (Teresa) Gombeda, David (Kim) Gombeda, Daniel Gombeda, Donald (Teresa) Gombeda and Philip Gombeda.

Funeral services were Feb. 25, 2010, at the Black-Epperson Funeral Home, Byesville.

The Rev. Fr. Robert Borer officiated.

Burial was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Byesville.
