BYESVILLE -- Officials of Jackson Township acted Tuesday to purchase equipment commonly known as a backhoe.

Trustees agreed to buy a new backhoe for $73,014.

The purchase will be financed through a five-year loan from PNC Bank.

The annual interest will be 4 percent.

The first year payment is expected to total $16,920, Fiscal Officer Donna Mallett said.

Trustees plan to sell the old backhoe and hope to sell it to another government entity.

If such an entity buys it, the township will not have to go through the public bidding process, Trustee Dave Gombeda said.

Trustee Rusty Winland said an official from another village had inquired about the backhoe, but Windland declined to quote a price.

"He didn't say [how much he would pay]," Winland said. "And I didn't want to say how much we wanted because I didn't know how much it's worth."
